Deposit for winter holiday let

Hi guys
I am about to move in to a furnished holiday cottage for 5 months. I have signed a holiday let agreement and have paid £400 deposit.
I am just slightly concerned as the landlord told me to make sure I dont mark the walls.... obviously with a 3 year old daughter, I imagine there will be a little wear and tear while I'm there although I will try and keep things to a minimum.

Does the landlord have to put my deposit in one of the new schemes? I doubt he does due to it being a holiday let but I thought I would ask just in case!

No deposit does not have to be placed in a scheme as the tenancy agreement is not an AST.

    Ok, thanks.
I will take pics before I move in as a type of inventory just in case there is a problem with it being returned at the end.

I have reread your post. 5 months is a long time for a holiday let. If tenacy is a holiday let style agreement then deposit does not need to be registered. If it is in fact an AST then deposit does need to be registered. You will need to check what type of tenancy you have.

Have you seen a current gas safety cert for this property? Some holiday lets will have them displayed in a frame on the wall somewhere

It'll be a winter let of a holiday home. There are loads of them at this time of year (well, here in Devon anyway). They're usually cheaper than a 'regular' rental accommodation, but you have to be out in time for the holiday season.

If the walls get marked, it's usually nothing a little Flash liquid won't remove (better than sugar soap). The alternative is to take some responsibility as a landlord I wouldn't view grubby kids fingerprints as "fair wear & tear" I'm afraid.
Signature on holiday for two weeks

From Mutton Geoff’s sig - "Question of the week: Why do so many MSE's spell tenant "tennant"? "
Probably for the same reason that you mistakenly use a possessive apostrophe in a plural acronym - ie, MSE’s rather than MSEs. ;)

Or it could just be that the problems with their landlords have driven them to drink and the double “n” of a particular beer brand is stuck in their brain.
