Cheapest Way to Falmouth?

My 19 year old daughter wants to visit her friend who is a student in Falmouth. We live in Stourbridge, so its quite a long journey. Ive looked on thetrainline.com and with a 16-25 railcard the fare is still £73. Is there any cheaper alternatives do you know? Thanks

Try split ticketing at stations where you change trains and/or train companies. Also look at https://www.megatrain.com and check the coach prices.

    What about National Express (buses)?

I have been to Redruth from Oxford using them, and had to change at Plymouth going there and Bristol coming back (waits of around 50 minutes), but the cost was about half I could find on the train.

Try out a few days on their website to see if that makes a difference - I would guess going Friday and coming back Sunday would be more expensive than going/coming back in the middle of the week.

Depends when she wants to go and how much inconvenience she can put up with!

National Express have some £3 fares for Birmingham to Bristol and Bristol to Plymouth. Then the other bits might be c £10 or so each way. So you might be able to put a trip together for £30 to £35, but it might mean an overnight stay in a bus station somewhere!
