The latest chapter in my Homebuy experience

A while back I posted about my problems with using the Homebuy Mychoice scheme. The Homebuy agent wouldn't let the sale go through as my mortgage was short of £5 and I was going to pay that myself.

I got that sorted by getting a new mortgage offer for £5 more and thought that would be the end of it. A moving date was set for 27th October (this was a couple of weeks back).

Since then I have called the Homebuy office every day chasing them. Every day there has been some sort of issue. I finally thought it was all sorted, but today Homebuy are claiming my signature on the loan form is not an original. It was witnessed by my solicitor who tells me they are basically saying he has lied.

I signed the document in my solicitors office and he then witnessed it. How can that not be an original signature? They say there is not an imprint, which is because I don't press down very hard when I sign my name. My mortgage company accepted my signature, so I can't understand why they have a problem with it.

Now it seems the sale might fall apart leaving me homeless next week.

What a ridiculous performance. Are they mad? If the solicitor is saying he witnessed it, how on earth can they question his word.

What your solicitors opinion on being called a liar?
  • You poor sod, this is turning into a complete nightmare for you!
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

    They're a bunch of muppets.

The scary thing is, they are still constantly berating me with advertisements of the scheme! Everytime they phone I have to tell them I have already been through it and pulled out due to the housing market & their incompetence...

I would have pulled out ages ago if I was you, I just wouldn't be able to take their crap...
  • This morning I got them to email a new copy of the document to my solicitor, I then went and signed it and got it witnessed, then drove to the Homebuy office to deliver it in person.

Now I have another issue,. The sellers solicitor won't exchange contracts without a full 10% deposit and insists we exchange and complete at the same time or pay the deposit. Homebuy won't allow this and must have a certain number of days between exchange and completion.

I thought we had got around this as our solicitor took a smaller deposit from us that was originally agreed by the sellers solicitor.

The whole thing is one big nightmare, my wife is in tears. We don't have a clue if we will be moving next Monday as previously agreed or what will happen.

Bloody people... They don't realise how much stress it causes people and how much it messed with peoples lives! The solicitor should know how this scheme works and should know that you can't do what they're asking! Tell them you will pull out if they mess you around anymore, that should put the wind up them a bit. The vendor is probably as stressed as you are!

Ask your solicitor to notify Homebuy that you have fixed 27th for completion and to confirm that funds will be released in time.
