Im going to be getting a Sony Cybershot S-80 camera for xmas and i know it comes with 32mb built in memory but can also take memory cards. What im wondering is if they have to be Sony make or if they can be any make as long as they are SD cards. There is one on play.com at the moment for £17.99 delivered for 512mb. That seems a good price and i would like to get it if compatible. Thanks
Im going to attempt to do the link but never sure really what im doing so it may or may not work.

no they don't have to be sony*, but shop araound...
some good sites
www.mymemory.com
www.picstop.com
www.ebuyer.com (watch out for postage charges here)
can't think of many more of the top of my head, but go to froogle and search for SD memory (www.froogle.co.uk)
Enjoy
*Are you sure it takes SD cards - there are 4 or 5 different types of memory - I think this takes Sony Memory Sticks, in which case, yes they do have to be sony. Other memory types (SD, xD, compact flash etc you don't need to stick with the brand name)
I hope my post isn't too confusing (i've been up a long time!)
Pm me if it doesn't make sense!0 -
Most Sony stuff only take Memory Sticks, which come in two formats (regular and Duo). The latter is basically a smaller version of the original, but Sony MS Duos come with an adaptor so that they will fit into regular MS readers.
The choice of makers is fairly limited. AFAIK only Sony, Lexar and Sandisk make them. They make at least 3 different speeds. Unless your camera can make use of the faster cards, it's not really worth going for anything but the basic speed.
When I bought one a couple of weeks ago, the cost for a basic 1Gb Sandisk card was £55 inc P&P , rising to ~£120 for a Sony high-speed card of the same size. I used pricerunner, dealtime and kelkoo to find the best price.Jumbo
