do you think the media is helping with the housing situation??

Personally, I think the media have to take a degree of responsibility for what is happening to house prices and ultimately, consumer confidence. Yes, there should be factual reporting on the market, but all this scare mongering based on predictions and warnings by "experts" is the real culprit.
Just the facts please!

Did you express this same opinion of medias coverage of house prices when they were on the way up?
Those head lines that scared young people into buying houses, that, as we see now, a dropping like a stone?
Or the stories of people extracting equity to buy another house to rent out and are now seeing two houses lose value daily?
Can you please show us where you complained about that?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The one where you showed us Dithering Dad is a complete liar. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -
Or all the tales in the press (and govt) from this time last year to a month or two ago that this was all just just a blip, nothing to see, move on now. We had almost a year of keeping the scam going hoping that something would turn up, and even when we're (taxpayers) shovelling almost unimaginable amounts of cash/debt into the system, we're still getting reports of "just a blip, green shoots on the way". Don't hold your breath for an apology though, it'll always be somebody else's fault - ba$tards the lot of them.0

Surely its scaring more people away...its a vicious circle the media is reporting on it so buyers are being scared away, which means prices are dropping, which makes the media report even more..
Precisely so. It's the media's job to re-inflate hte desparate housing bubble, and not to report any reality whatsoever....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
If there wasn't so much doubt in the media about house prices maybe people would still be purchasing... i think some part of it is defininatly scare mongering.
house prices started dropping first, then the media got round to noticing it, a few months later.......much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Is it the media scaring FTBs away or is it the difficulty in obtaining a mortgage that is keeping them away? Also I hope a degree of common sense is holding them back, why would they buy today when prices are still dropping?0

It's been proved time and again with certain publications taking a certain political stance and as a result having a major influence on General Elections.
How many people can truly say they are able to see past what the press choose to print and are able to make a decision based only on personal circumstances?
This is an easy one, Don,t buy newspapers.0 -

Hmmm, yes, you’re right. I must also complain about the good times as well, otherwise my opinion is not valid.
I will take your constructive criticism and .......

Read the updated intro to Andrew Marr's "A History of Modern Britain". He criticises the press for failing to notice the impeding recession whilst all the time devoting acres of paper speculating about the fate of a poor little girl missing in Portugal.

As a potential FTB and someone who has studied economics i could see this coming 2 years ago so decided not to buy. I am in a position where i could get a mortgage for the type of property i want but this would be stretching myself to the limit. I will not be buying until property is fair value.0 -

Good times?
Are they the goodtimes that made people stretch to unprecedented levels of debt simply to buy a house?
Are they the goodtimes that have eventualy caused banks to fail and be bailed out by the inocent tax payer?
are they the good times that have coincided with the highest levels of personal debt and national debt EVER?
Are they the good times that encouraged people to borrow more debt on their house and waste it?
Are they the goodtimes that extended so far that they have brought the world economy to the brink of collapse and which may yet happen?
Good times my @rse!
Only an idiot would call them good times, an idiot who could'nt see what was inevitable.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The one where you showed us Dithering Dad is a complete liar.
