PPI reclaiming

Apologies if this isnt in the correct area of the forum, wasnt sure where to post it!
Saw Martin on GMTV this morning and he was talking about reclaiming PPI, it struck a chord with me and made me realised that the company who provides my car insurance may owe me money back.
I have been a customer of endsleigh insurance for about 6 years and recently had to change the details on my policy as I had a new car. When the new info came through detailing the new monthly direct debit payments etc i noticed a charge was included for payment protection, problem is that I have never even been asked,to my knowledge, if i want payment protection- so looks like i may have been paying it for 6 years unknowingly. The only documents i really keep from insurance company is the most relevant statements of insurance etc so I cant say for definite, but does this sound like it could be a case for reclaiming?
Any advice most greatly received!

Certainly sounds that way, if i were you i would contact Endsleigh and ask them for a breakdown of your payments then you know for sure.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

  • HI, i have just read the above post and checked my car insurance documents from Endsleigh and have found PPI charges on my statement of insurance - I was completely unaware of this and was not discussed with anyone at all. Can i reclaim this? also i have been with Endsleigh for a couple of years but only have the most recent documents - how do i go abut getting copies of the previous ones?

    Thanks

Yes u can reclaim as its completely unfair to charge u without your knowledge or consent. You need to ring Endsleigh and request past documents so you can work out how much you need to claim - they may charge you for this.

called Endsleigh today and asked about getting a break down of the payment schedule, got given a number for "premium credit" who they use for their monthly payments etc. They seemed unable to give me more than just this years breakdown, claiming the other documents would be "archived" by now. Have asked for the most recent one to be sent,as im fairly sure that PPI is included in what im paying.
Endsleigh will charge if they need to resend documents.
If i receive this years payment breakdown and PPI is included, should i just go ahead and write to try and reclaim? Obviously I would only have a vague idea of how much they owed me but its unlikely this PPI has just been added now?
  • Under Data Protection Act you are entitled to a copy of all the information they hold on you even if archived. I believe the maximum they can charge is £10.

Not quite. The company is allowed to reject your data access request if they know the information is being used in conjunction with a complaint. (that was tested in court and has gone to high court, appeal etc Although I believe the case is still running)

It is also only pertinent data that needs to be supplied. So, a full client file may not be provided. Although with historical PPI that isnt really an issue as typically its nothing more than the agreement and applications.

Just a quick update- after several attempts to get the information i need from endsleigh (and failing) I decided just to chance my luck and send a letter to them.
So I wrote to them explaining how I had received a breakdown of paymnents and saw that PPI was included, without my consent. I said how disappointed I was with them for doing this and asked for a full refund of the amount paid, or I wouldnt be renewing my car insurance with them and would be complaining to FO.
Obviously I dont hold out a huge deal of hope that this will be successful, but we can see what happens!

Out of interest, has your request for refund of PPI been successful?
I have had home insurance with them for 4 years and only noticed that there was PPI included because last time I renewed, they forgot to add it and have now sent me an email to tell me they would add it again...
