We haven't used 'proper' light bulbs for 12 years.
Have no problem whatsoever with the ESLBs and the Daylight White ones are great, make me feel much more happier.
I find the 'proper' light bulbs are dreary. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Impossible. Even with a paper shade, the quality of light was awful, harsh and fatiguing.
I see companies always fit these bulbs in mirrored holders let into false-ceilings Maybe that's the key to making the light acceptable.
IMHO these bulbs are a fraud between the supplies and the politicians. We'll soon be told that we need to use LED or some such and have the buy bulbs all over again. Remember, until a 'low energy' bulb has been running for at least 60 minutes, it's actually taken more energy than a normal bulb would have.
I'm stocking up on 60W and 100W proper bulbs while I can.
Excuse the mess of my kitchen. But I got a shade that works well with it from B&Q (£20). It's white on the inside. It was really too bright with no shade on, but it's just right with this one. I had an electrician in last week and he was 'wow, what's that, i'm blind!' :rotfl: He really shouldn't have stared at it head on lol

Oooo I had a lovely nosey around your kitchen Jackie! This is the first time I've heard about these white daylight bulbs, do they help with Seasonal Affective Disorder? I'm looking at my 20w energy light bulb and it looks dull compared to the one in Jackie's photo.0

As per my post several posts further up this thread, they do indeed help with SAD.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... When I wrote that I was sure someone had mentioned it, but was too lazy to check, lol. I think it was Bubbles who said you can't get these white lights in this country? Where do you get yours and how much are they? Also (yes another question coming up!) someone said they didn't see a difference with the cost of running an enery saving light bulb compared to running a normal light bulb. Is that true?0

I got mine online. They cost £15 each. I've seen them cheaper but it always works out the same once you pay for the postage. http://www.fullspectrumlighting.co.uk/
You might get them cheaper elsewhere though. These came the next day after I ordered them.
Mine are 25w - they're the equivelant of a 100w. With normal (non daylight) energy saving bulbs a 20w is equivelant to a 100w. Two of these are apparently the same as having a SAD lamp.
Before I ordered the second one for the other end of the room, I had a normal energy saving bulb, and it was really dull, despite being a 20w one.
And colours are much brighter. You wouldn't believe how red it makes your tomatoes, or yellow your sweetcorn lol. People's skin tones look so much different too - everyone looks healthier. :rotfl:
Can you tell I like them?0 -
I got mine off eBay a while back, were just under £7 each at the time, a special offer so they said, posted from Spain, with the correct bayonet connection. These ones have ionizers in them too. 23W are the ones I have. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
