Aldi v Lidl

Hi all

I currently shop at Aldi but have heard rave reviews about Lidl, and a couple of people have said that its cheaper then Aldi but the quality doesn't suffer.

Anyone know if this is true? I'm getting a bit giddy at the thought of saving a few quid!

Thanks

  • Hi there  There are several threads in the Shop don't Drop Board comparing supermarkets - I found this one - Aldi or Lidl?

I'll move your question over ;)

  • Thanks very much, I wasn't sure if I'd posted in the right section.

If it wasn't for the shop names i would be hard pushed to tell the 2 apart.

Even the layouts are similar. There are bargains and favourites to be had in either. Same as any supermarket, some things are better priced than others, some i don't think are that good at all.

If you have never been before then indeed you must be excited, go give it a whirl.

Don'T be put off by some unfamiliar brand names.

Most things are as good and even better than familiar brands.

Try a few things. The chocolate is particularly good. ( Cadbury eat your heart out)
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • Lidl every time, I find the quality, service, pricing and selection of goods better on almost every level.
    Loving the dtd thread. x
  • I shop at Lidl during the week and pop into Aldi at the weekend. We've got both (and we're only a small town!!). The main difference is that our Lidl opens at 8 am and is on the way back from the newsagent where I work!

  • hi all, try shopping at lidl, when they are doing fruit and veg at half price, they do it on a regular basis, Lidl online will tell you whan you're local store is doing it. They sell a lot then, and have a fast turnover, specially in salad stuff, so usually nice'n fresh:j

Aldi seem to be trying to move a bit upmarket. Of the two, on balance, we prefer Lidl. No airs and graces, just good value, on the whole.
  • Both are great, both have their own special offers every week, all power tools have 3 years warranty, I would not like to say one is better than the other they are both good value shops.
