Hi all,
Also posted this on another section, but it's also a 'techie' subject i guess. I'm looking for a new (probably LCD) TV and have a budget of around 600/700 quid. Anyone have any advice on brands? Do i need HD ready? Ever bought from play.com (very cheap ..........are they risky!!) . Have been leaning towards Samsung 26" with freeview built in.
Any advice welcome
Thanks

Hello again! :hello:

Unless you have sky and willing to pay an extra £10 a month (which is what HD is expected to cost) then I wouldn't bother.
Play.com are brilliant, but they are based in Jersey, which is not part of the UK (not for taxation purposes anyway), so you may have to pay VAT and Import duty when the item is delivered. There were some reports recently that Play were now paying import taxes before sending items, but I suggest you check this out thoroughly before purchasing.0 -
Thanks again,
Thats interesting.............did'nt realise HD was expected to be a pay monthly stripe up. I don't do sky either.....just don't like Murdoch!
Might just stick with Amazon as play.com sounds a bit long winded ...potentially.
Some good deals at richer .....thanks0 -
Don't take everything I say as gospel though
- there are some people who rate HD far more than I do, and it will be used on DVDs too... 0 -
HD won't really be around for a few years yet, except for $ky subscriptions. You might pay a lot now for something that will a lot cheaper in a few years

Have you compared LCD to good old CRT? IMHO (and those of reviewers) the picture is still poorer on LCD (with a slower refresh unless you pay top$), and so you pay 2x-3x for what is basically a slimmer box with a poorer picture. Just a money-saving thought...Jumbo

In relation to HD TV there are also rumours that because the Sky HD box will cost between 300 - 600 then as long as you subscribe to the full packages then HD TV will be free - again there are so many rumours who knows.
If you are worried by Play.com due to import and vat charges have you looked at https://www.empiredirect.com I have used them myself and found then quite competative.0 -
Yep - forgot about them - very good too :TReluctant_spender wrote:If you are worried by Play.com due to import and vat charges have you looked at https://www.empiredirect.com I have used them myself and found then quite competative.0
