Free view reception

Apologies, I know it must have been asked before. I have a dvd recorder with free view, I guess I need to connect an aerial to it. I have the normal old aerial, will it do? someone said I need a digital aerial, what is that?

I have just had cable and sky disconnected saving £35 a month :j

kind regards

The only way to find out is to plug up to your old aerial. It may well be that it's not good enough to receive Freeview, so you might have to buy a new one.

Thanks a lot both of you,
Loaner, I do get some channels with the sky box but are these the same channels you get with free view or some additional ones, I know ch5 is not on sky Living and many others.

Juts try it with the old Aerial. We recently bought a new TV with Freeview and our 20 year old aerial gets a great signal, not that much use as we have cable but it's nice to know we have a fallback if we ever have problems.

The free channels that you get with Sky vary to those that you get with Freeview.
  • You won't get Living on Freeview either.

Forgot to say if you have a Sky dish you could always look into getting Freesat. Panasonic even make TVs with built in receivers now.

  • A normal aerial should do the job... my Mom uses just an old normal outside aerial. Also I've read somewhere that when the digital switch-over fully happens then the signal will be stronger anyway. :)

Many thanks every one, I have run a cable from the roof aerial to the box and it works, thanks every one.
Is there a point in getting Sky freesat, more channels? Is it subscription based? Currently I dont even get BBC 1 with the sky box, but do get some channels.

We watch Freeview most of the time, but find the free Sky channels useful when we want to opt out of a regional opt-out (usually to avoid football or River City).

You have two choices of freesat. The free stuff from Sky or the new FreeSat service which requires a different digibox but can use a Sky dish. the new service gives you free HD content if you have a HD TV.
