I take it you have MS Word installed?
Right click on the document in Explorer and select 'Open With' then select 'Choose Program' at the bottom, select MS Word and also tick the 'Always open with selected program...' box.....0 -
Not sure exactly what you mean. Say its a job application, when i click on it i can open or save, i right clicked on it but open with was not an option. And if, you know, your history...0

I suspect that Microsoft Office is not installed by default. This is often the case with new laptops.
You have 2 choices here. Either shell out some more notes on Microsoft Office or install a free alternative such as OpenOffice.0 -
Dont like the shellingout option! Presume if i google open office and download that might work? And if, you know, your history...0

Has the document come to you in an email?
If so save it to your hard drive first.
Then to open Explorer press and hold the 'Windows' Key (near the bottom left of keyboard next to Alt) then press E.
This will open Explorer, then find where you saved the document, then right click on it, and follow my previous instructions.
BUT, does the laptop have MS Word on it?.....0 -
It does have word, yes. I'll try whatyou said, then look at open office option. Cheers guys. And if, you know, your history...0

Oh, actually, similarly, if I try and save things as a word doc it saves it to notepad, but if I save as rich text doc it saves as a normal word document. And if, you know, your history...0

OpenOffice can be found here: http://www.openoffice.org/
I would have a look in your programs list first to make sure you don't already have MS Office installed. If you do then following davetrousers's advice will sort you out.0 -
What is the file type? is it a .doc file?.....0

Are you sure you have found 'Microsoft Word' and not 'Microsoft WordPad'? They are not the same.0
