Really Confused. Benefits after Redundancy?

    While we are on the subject of contributions based JSA, do you have to start claiming this as soon as you are made redundant, or can you claim it months later (having claimed nothing in the mean time)..

    Im asking as my wife didnt know she was entitled to contributions based JSA when she was made redundant, and savings makes it pointless trying to get any other help from the state.. So, is it too late for her to claim this now? (She is still unemployed)

    My DH got it "backdated" (though obviously only 6 months worth of money) 2 years after being made redundant -- but in his case he could prove he's been to the local benefits office and been told he wasn't entitled to anything because of my income (which contributions JSA would take into account).

    Simplest thing is to contact them and ask.....

    Contribution based JSA does not take a partners income into account, income based does, maybe that is what you meant.
