should I insulate my hot water tank

Its the type that has a kind of expanded foam jacket all over it sort of fixed as part of the tank. Its nice and warm in the airing cupboard as I put my washing in there to dry so should I also put another jacket on it? thanks

The heat may be from the hot water pipes in the cupboard, perhaps insulate those.

I am not sure what the insulation on your hot tank is made of, but the insulation on mine is a green coloured hard foam and there is virtually no heat coming off. It would certainly not benefit from a loose fitting old type insulation jacket. The thought occurs to me that perhaps the heat is coming from the associated pipe work. Before you do anything else, I suggest that you make sure that all the pipe work that carries hot water is thoroughly insulated.
My tank is in a roof void and not an airing cupboard, so obviously I would not want there to to be any untoward heat losses from it. Therefore, I made sure that all the pipework was well insulated.
