Its the type that has a kind of expanded foam jacket all over it sort of fixed as part of the tank. Its nice and warm in the airing cupboard as I put my washing in there to dry so should I also put another jacket on it? thanks

The heat may be from the hot water pipes in the cupboard, perhaps insulate those.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I am not sure what the insulation on your hot tank is made of, but the insulation on mine is a green coloured hard foam and there is virtually no heat coming off. It would certainly not benefit from a loose fitting old type insulation jacket. The thought occurs to me that perhaps the heat is coming from the associated pipe work. Before you do anything else, I suggest that you make sure that all the pipe work that carries hot water is thoroughly insulated.
My tank is in a roof void and not an airing cupboard, so obviously I would not want there to to be any untoward heat losses from it. Therefore, I made sure that all the pipework was well insulated.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
