AFAIK the only way that a person can get get VED exemption is if they get before their 65th birthday. This is because it is dependant on mobility component of DLA which is not available, unless already granted, to over 65. Does anybody know any other way for an over 65 with disability to qualify for VED exemption?

Hi Brodev
AFAIK there is no way for a person who becomes disabled after the age of 65 to qualify for road tax exemption, although that person can get a blue badge in the right circumstances.
Mobilise has campaigned against this anomoly, and I believe it has been raised in parliament from time to time, but nothing has been done. The cynic in me suspects this is because granting such exemption to an aging population would reduce the treasury coffers, while not really having much effect on the voting public.
You might get more information from Mobilise
