But --also look at donations to small local charities that use volunteers and rescue dogs from the pounds.Rain Rescue is one and the Doris Banham charity is currently looking for donations. Small sums go a long way in these organisations. And they help dogs quite literally on Death Row through no fault of their own

Dogs in council pounds have very few advocates other than these small charities-they also appreciate dog beds (plastic ones)/newspapers /toys/old blankets.

There are also charities that rescue dogs from puppy farms.

The small charities do similar schemes and again they help dogs that have no voice

Didn't want to post this as the last thing that's needed is for people to give up on charities ,but think previous post has a point. I have had -for several days nearly 7 phone calls a day from a 0117 9303406 .I traced this to a 'charity callline 'that calls contributors/likely contributors. My phone no is ex-directory and on the no-junk-phonecall list.I have answered three times to callers wanting to talk to my daughter who currently supports the Dogs Trust by DD.

They have been less than pleasant.I pointed out the status of the phone no to the caller this morning but she-along with the other two were pushy to the point of aggression-and I'm a long way from a pushover.

So -a)the call centres cost money b) they've been ringing a barred number c) the callers would have done credit to a debt collection agency. So my money is now definitely going to small charities Gift Aid and all.

WSPA who both my daughter and I contribute to haven't done this and there is an option to have e-mails instead of expensive paper mailshots.

And as a postscript the Cats Protection League has sent out information re
the Icelandic banks to people who contribute. They still come out and care for cats the RSPCA won't deal with-I've always found them really helpful

My money is still going to go to the small charities or at least ones I perceive as doing the maximumj value for money

I'm happy donating tins of food to the local dogs/cats home
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

    Sound idea-thanks
  • Large charity like theses have massive overheads

Maybe the OP would want to explain how much of money raised by Dogstrust go straight to the charitible acts?
