E S light bulbs

I need to but an energy saving R80 bulb, can anyone advise where the best (cheapest/value) place to get them from is? I've chacked my local ASDA and they do not stock them.

Have you tried asking one of the colleagues if they're somewhere different? At our store at least half the bulbs are ES ones

ES is the abbreviation used in the industry to mean 'Edison Screw' fitting, as opposed to 'Bayonet' fitting, rather than 'Energy Saving'. As far as I am aware, R80 bulbs are always Edison Screw fitting. You can try ebulbshop, but these bulbs are not cheap.

An R80 lamp is a spot light lamp you can get replacement LED lamps but they cost a bit (about £10) if you are not going to use the light a lot I would stick to the normal R80. but if still want one Google "R80 LED" and you will find what you are looking for.

I picked up some energy saving R80's from a Focus that was shutting down. They used a small fluorescent tube inside, but took an age to warm up to full brightness, which was equivalent to moonlight. Far too dim, cold (blue) and slow. As said above, unless you use the lamp a lot, you're unlikely to make any sufficient saving to pay for the cost of the bulbs. I'm waiting for the prices to come down and the technology to move on a bit. They're pretty much there with standard bulbs, but not the reflectors yet.

The light will be used a lot,it's the main light on the landing just above the stairs and is on all night so the kids can get to the bathroom without having to worry about the stairs.

I managed to get one today from Morrisons for £2.50. They have a great selection of energy saviong bulbs with standard ones 2 for 49p.
