Direct Telephone Booking v Internet Price !! Don't pay £500 extra like I did!!

Having recently booked over the telephone for my holiday next May with a very well known travel company at a cost of £2,169. I have found that if I had booked with the same company online I could have had the same holiday, same dates, same duration for £1692.00!! When I tried to cancel my original booking, I am told that I will lose the deposit of £250, even though it is the same identical company. I am not able to transfer to the new booking. JOBS WORTH OR WHAT!

My reason for mailing this is so that other people know to check the price on line first. It would appear that it is no benefit booking early and it certainly does not save money.

I'm going to get in first to say thanks for warning others before the 'didn't you read the terms and conditions?', 'oh dear haven't you been silly?, 'I never do anything like that' brigade start their usual boring tirade. Although along a similar vein I was sent my renewal policy for car insurance and managed to save over £100 just by booking the exact same policy over the internet. I wouldn't have know about the possibility of doing that a few years ago before I joined this site and relied on people like you for advice.
  • Does this 'well known travel company' have a price match promise? If so use it. If not read Martins articles on how to book cheaper holidays and learn for next time.

The person on the phone was ding they're job so they're not a jobsworth, to me its common sense that if you book on the phone you pay more than booking it over the internet

That really is a rip-off. I know it is always a little bit more on the phone but not 25%!! Thank you for letting us know. You would still save if you cancelled and rebooked online - at least you would be saving about £250.
:)I used to have a life............................... before MSE!!

    Alright I will say it
Why did you check price online after you booked and not before?

I have found with the ferry companies that telephone bookings can be less than internet prices. Ask if this is the best price if it is not I have known "special offers" to be available not offered at first. Plus I have been offered better meal deals over the phone, and on one occasion where I wanted a cabin a free upgrade.

Always check the internet first, as a telephone offer is only available for the duration of the call.

  • Are you scared to name the well known company just in case they send a hit man round to your door?
