Roaming Cursor

The cursor in my PC is moving from side to side also up and down on its own. When I direct it to a point on screen it heads the way I direct it with great difficulty then moves around on its own when it reaches the point I direct it too.
Have run a virus scan and PC shows no virus. I deleted a lot of "stuff" from Program Files the other day, but thought that I had only removed unnecessary files that I had installed, i.e. took out Roxio as I use Nero also some Adobe software that wasn't being used, well think that's all I took out? As I'm using XP Home maybe Roll back to a previous date would fix it? Any other suggestions before I try this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If it is a desktop, try a different mouse..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks but its a PC.
Just noticed that when the cursor is above a web page like now its OK but when trying to direct it on a Word document or e mail its got a mind of its own.0 -
Is it a wireless set, as I sometimes find that happens when the batteries are running down?
:santa2:0 -
I take that back about it being OK over a web page as its all over the screen right now but was OK when I typed in above reply. I have a spare mouse in a box up in the loft, will try it.0

OK will try batteries right now however the batteries are only about a month or so old thats in it but will give it a go.
Thanks0 -
If the mouse has rollers, rather than optical, just check that they are clean from gunge, if optical, check that there is no dirt on the sensor.. I doubt that this is the problem, but you never know..
Does it do it after a reboot? Do you have any errors in the event log? Is it on a KVM switch box.
If you can, Swap/(borrow a) the mouse if it still persists after a reboot and in safe mode.
It could be the KB/mouse controller on the PC, if it is old - usually get errors in the event log..
It could be a software conflict, which is more difficult to identify.. Does it do it in safe mode, are you using an internal dial-up modem?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Success !!!!!!!!
The new batteries have done the trick.... That's what I get for buying cheap batteries from the Pound shop as the batteries that were in the mouse were only about a month old, will buy some decent Energiser or Duracell batteries as I have only replaced the batteries in the mouse with same batch of cheapies. Thanks, saved me an unnecessary Roll Back and Trip up to the loft.0 -
Well done edinburghlass, completely forgot about battery powered mice..(I use tethered, they are cheaper to run..)
Sometimes you miss the most obvious reason!Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Glad it worked Jeff, just had the same problem recently with cheap Ikea batteries.
False economy in the end
Morrisons are doing their usual offer of BOGOF on their Energiser batteries, I always stock up on these before Christmas.
