    what an extraordinary question
  • You tell me which you would prefer, and there is your answer;

    a) £520 cash after 12 months for the basic rate tax payer, in a typical 6.5% instant access savings account

    b) £8 cash after 12 months in a current account earning a typical 0.01%

    Both figures are net of basic rate tax (20%)

    Why not open the A&L esaver2 @ 6.60%. I applied on Friday and mine was opened on Sunday.

    There's also the issue of swopping between the old one and new one to avoid the interest penalty.

    They're also having a £10,000 draw on 31/12/2008 and you get 1 entry for the first £10,000 you have lodged on 31/12 and an extra entry for each £1000. You also get this in the old esaver.
