  • first question....You need to enable internet sharing on the main computer which has the modem connected to it (I assume you are not using a modem/router) then on the second computer you need to set it up to connect through another computer. If you go to start --> then Help and type in internet sharing it will give a fuller description on how to set up.

Second question ....could be a variety of reasons, one being you are not actually connecting to your other computer but someone elses wireless network :) also could be due to thickness of walls, other interference, etc...it maybe you need to change the channel you have set it up on.

    hope this helps

am I thinking that this is not a Wireless hub on the 2nd PC but a USB wireless dongle

in which case this is a peer to peer wireless network ?

like the poster above said, internet connection sharing

what firewall are you using on either/both Pc's as not all of them support networking

windows one should work and not block anything, you can turn it off on the one that is not connected to the internet without any risk

(the main one is protected although i would recommend installing a REAL firewall, the windows one is very very very basic !)

not sure if peer to peer has very good range though which might be your problem

Browntoa - I am so grateful for your help although it's still not working. The wireless signal strength is excellent so I don't think that is the problem, it's got to be something sooooo simple (I hope) maybe a box just need checking or something

Ok, I've solved the problem and now guest can connect to the internet but the other guest comp which is connected via crossover cable cannot now connect - there must be a way to connect both?
