Working

I get

Income Support £78 a week
Carer's Allowance (adult depenancy on top) £82.50 a week
DLA (middle rate care) £44.85 a week
Child Benefit (2 child age 2 and 6)
Child Tax Credit £92.84 week
Housing full rent paid (£82.50) by housing benefit and full council benefit tax £19 a week

I am currently training to be a plumber

I have been offered a job which I undertake training

Only Part Time £50 10 hours over 3 days, or £70 for 12 hours (4 hours over 3 days) There will be times where I might work longer the odd times but wont be paid for it as I am in training.

Two Questions to ask

What benefits will I get?

If I am in training, is there a regulation where I must be on minimum wages or the regulations does not affect training? Ie I would be have a set wage £80 for training one week?

Thank you so much to those who reply to this thread.

You will probably loose Income support, some council tax benefit and some housing benefit.

You will get to keep DLA, child benefit, carer's allowance as long as you don't go over £95 per week, child tax credits might increase.

  • There would be no reason for child tax credit to increase.

And you would not qualify for working tax credit unless you worked 16 hours p/w - you would need to be paid minimum wage otherwise it doesnt class as working. It would then only be classed as a training course.

If you work for an employer and have "on the job" training and receive minimum wage for 16+ hours p/w you could claim the WTC.

If your job involves training, you don't have to be paid minimum wage for the first 12 months.

my understanding (based on DD's experience) is that any income above £10/week (including child maintainance payments) will reduce what a person is entitled to. And there's clearly also a point where they'll lose all benefits completely.
