Anyone know how to open a door handle thas stuck closed??

I have removed front plate and have the long square bar thing which turns ok it just is not opening the spring. What can I do?

Is it a case of breaking door down?

A trick that has worked for me in the past is to remove the bar & then use a flat ended screwdriver that is a good fit in it's place, give it a turn & open the latch.

Or you could try sliding a flat bladed knife or credit card between the latch itself & the door frame & try to slide the latch back.
