Help IB benefit, think I am in right forum now!!!

HI All,.
I have been on IB for years and they have sent me a letter of which I have to fill a form out and maybe go for a medical. ( It is the old style form and not the new one) I have filled out the form the best I can and was hoping someone could tell me how long it takes to find out if they will send me for a medical and if they will write to me either way (I posted it last Tuesday)? The reason for this is I am thinking of doing permitted work and don't want to apply for it incase I fail my medical ( I have read some horror stories of this happening!) ....As then I will be left with nothing.
I did go for a medical years ago but the doctor was horrible to me and I filed a complaint and they have not sent me any forms fro over 5 years and I find it strange that they have done now!
Any help would be much appreciated and thank you in advance!

It depends how busy they are but it maybe 2 or 3 months before you hear anything though it could be quicker or longer. I cannot be more accurate because it does vary a great deal. If they want you to attend a medical they will contact you to arrange a time and if you do not need a medical they will write to you.0

They seem to be having another crack at getting people back into work and off IB.

I`m not sure how you come to that conclusion from the OP post?
To me it sounds like they had an IB50 5 years ago and eventually it was decided they qualified as being unfit for work, this would have been for a given time, the longest period between IB50s is usually 5 years. So it now seems that the OP has been sent a new IB 50 to complete, nothing whatsoever to do with getting people off I/B and into non existant jobs0 -

I am in the same situation as the OP and have also received the same form in the last 3 weeks, despite having been for a medical a year ago.
I have been off work since 2001 and have had 3 medicals which I have all passed. If they call me again, then this will be my fourth in 7 years.

2.6m on incapacity benefits face tough 'back to work' tests
· Purnell says savings will fund job incentives
· £30m plan criticised by disability group-
Patrick Wintour
The Guardian,

All of the 2.6 million people who are claiming incapacity benefits will have to take a rigorous test by April 2013 to see if they are capable of working, a move that will cost the Treasury £30m, the work and pensions secretary, James Purnell, said yesterday in a Commons budget debate.
Purnell also said he had won Treasury backing, in principle, for his department's retention of some of the savings secured through benefit claimants getting work.
The charity Disability Alliance criticised the move to impose the work capability assessments on all such claimants.
The secretary of state said his move, based on recommendations from the government's welfare adviser, David Freud, had left the Conservatives without a distinctive welfare policy, as well as lacking the means of raising the money for its plan that would end the so-called couple penalty in the benefits system.
The Tories had said they would fund the £3bn cost of ending the penalty by ensuring more incapacity benefit claimants did find jobs.
Until now ministers had said that only claimants under 24 and new claimants would take the new test. Purnell told MPs: "For those who play by the rules, we will provide extra support so that they can realise their ambitions. For people who do not play by the rules, there will be clear consequences from their behaviour."
Chris Grayling, the shadow work and pensions secretary, said the government had put up no money to fund the plan.
Ministers insisted they did have an agreement to plough back savings from getting people off benefits and going into work, so making it possible to fund the ambitious plan to use the private sector to help more people gain jobs.
The claim was backed by Adam Sharples, a work and pensions official, in evidence to a select committee on March 3. Sharples told MPs: "We do have agreement with the Treasury that the savings from the Pathways to Work programme, that is, the benefits savings, should be ploughed back into further employment programmes. We will be finalising the details of that arrangement shortly."

I agree with you re 2million fit people being out of work and recession, but Purnell has been mouthing off a lot earlier this year about getting people off IB and back into work.
There was no need to bite my head off though!
I only responded to the OP with what I had seen and read as I had also received a form to complete.

Government is damned if they do & damned if they don't!!!
Basically, they are slammed for not doing anything to help people off benefits & then slammed when they do try to help people off benefits!!
Marvelous..!Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!

I have heard loads about getting lone parents and disabled off benefits into work, along with decreasing the age of child etc. YET the people who in my opinion the goverment SHOULD be cracking down on are the young single jobless and couples where NEITHER work but i have not heard of any crack-down on them. I have been disaabled all my life and even in the late 70's early 80's the only job i got was two which were made just for me cos of my disability. Other than those 2 i have not managed to get a job even if i could work. As usuall they are targeting the easy option(abit like the csa). Makes me so angry.0
