Radiators not warming up any ideas??

Sorry to piggyback on an old thread but my radiators are exactly the same. I live in a flat and the radiators in my bedroom and living room are always stone cold/warm at the bottom and roasting at the top.

I filled a basin full of water (re-pressurised my boiler 5 times in the process) from the largest radiator (Living Room) and it heated up then the problem came back.

I recently had my boiler inspected and was told that sooner or later I would need a new heat exchanger - would this make a difference?

I have a Ferolli modena 80e, 7 year old boiler. For some reason the thermostatic valves all enter at the top right-hand side of the radiators :S

    Thanks guys.
  • New to this forum so unsure how it actually works. I used search engine to find why my radiators were not heating. Followed your good advice. Only 2 not heating. Bled them. Not that. Balanced them if that's the right term. Basically I turned them all off. Turned on the problem ones first and they heated, then turned on others slowly. Problem returned when 2 started to cool down again. I've done this twice now. Is it that I'm turning them on too soon after each other or is there a bigger problem. How much should I open up the screw thing to let heat into radiator. All/any advice greatly received as a week before Christmas is not a good time to look for an expert. Thanks

This really needed a new thread but no worries as you're a noob.:D Welcome to MSE BTW.

Is your system sealed and pressurised or is it open vented?

Do you have thermostatic radiator valves?

    Cheers

  • That's way too high tech for me. It's oil fired and has a boiler. That mean anything.
  • Ps thanks for quick reply.

Not wishing to appear rude but yes, it means you need to get someone in to look at it - not necessarily a professional but perhaps a knowledgeable friend, neighbour or relative. I don't somehow think we'll solve anything for you remotely unless you have all night and most of tomorrow continuously available and sorry but I don't.

    Cheers

  • Appreciate your advice. Will get someone in soon. Thanks for your time.
  • We recently built up into our loft. As part of it we put three new bedrooms upstairs. All the radiators upstairs and down, work fine and are hot throughout.

There is one radiator in our main bedroom is not fully heating. Our radiator has boiling hot water going in the pipe that has the temperature control on it. The actual radiator is in parts warm to touch but nowhere near as hot as the other radiators. The other pipe connected to the wall is cold to the touch.

Can you help problem solve this problem as I'm sure it is something simple and it might save us having to get someone in to investigate?

The radiators are all new. I have bled the problem radiator but this has not helped.

    Any advice?

    Thanks
