Hijacked Browser and white desktop

First let me apologise if there's already a thread I could have used for this. Ok niceties over, Please HELP!!!!

Simply put it appears I have been got at. I've downloaded and run several spyware programs including Ad-Aware SE Personal, Trend Micro, HijackThis to mention but a few.

Unfortunately I've cleaned that much my brush has lost it's bristles and when I look, my folders entries are not only in black but there are now some in blue. Don't know whether this is down to my cough cough errrr housekeeping, never was my strong point, or what but now I'm feeling the need for some human intervention.

Can anyone suggest where to start? I seem to recall the problem beginning when SpySherrif suddenly made an uninvited appearance.

Much obliged oldie but goodie.

  • Are some folders compressed (the blue ones)?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • Hadn't looked closely enough before, they are not zip files theyare part of uninstall programmes.
Think I may have sorted the desktop problem for now, but then again I thought I had sorted it before and it returned.
  • My guess is that you have run disk cleanup, and compressed old rarely used files and folders, which will then appear blue in explorer, so nothing to worry about..

If you right click on the folders, then click properties, advanced ...the "compress contents to save disk space" should be ticked. Take the tick out and the blue name should go.
