Train to London next January
I'm going to London the 11th January and returning the same day - I've done what Martin suggested and checked the train websites exactly 12 weeks before departure. I was shocked at the prices they were quoting:
Leicester to London
£43.30 single or £44.30 return! Outrageous prices.
I tried thetrainline and eastmidlands trains and they were both coming out with the same prices. I wouldn't be able to use Megatrain because they don't go to London on a Sunday.
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated... I'm taking my mum to see Cirque Du Soleil as a Christmas present (and those tickets weren't cheap!) so I just want to keep the costs down. At the moment it's going to be cheaper for me to drive down.

Don't panic. The cheap tickets don't all go on sale 12 weeks before.
I've just picked some random Sundays for this trip in Nov and there are tickets available as low as £7 each way.
You won't lose anything by waiting. Just keep trying every few days.0 -

My thoughts exactly, I was hoping to go Derby or Nottingham to London on the 10th Jan and return 12th Jan. I have done the same journey for the past three years and always managed to get a £12 return each, not this year, cheapest I can get is £52 or £104 for the two tickets. Now looking at driving and leaving the car at Stanmore for £3 a day and jump on the tube ?0 -

Yeah, the buses are okay if you're spending longer than a day there but the time it takes to travel is far too long. Unfortunately Megabus/Megatrin don't travel to or from Leicester on a Sunday

i've taken buses for loads of day trips, i guess it depends where you're traveling from/to
I guess you have to keep checking train prices then in that case.0
