Hi
We in the process of buying a property that requires modernising including connecting to gas!. Does anyone have any advice or know how much it costs and how long it takes(from application) to connect a new gas supply...guesstimates welcome!.
I understand its national grid who connect gas but their website isn't clear on charges. The house is approx 30 - 35m from the main road which is where we presume the nearest gas supply is.
A friend of mine recently had gas connected and it cost £900 inc trench digging and was within 23m of the dwelling
Any advice most appreciated.

There has been a thread on this subject last year:

You would need to contact your gas transporter or nominate a supplier and deal through them but they would add an admin charge for providing this service.
From my experience the cost will run into thousands rather than hundreds.
There are alternative gas installers, see http://www.lloydsregister.co.uk/girs.html but is unlikely any of these would quote for a single domestic supply.
If you think a connection charge quote is excessive it can be disputed via Ofgem but Ofgem will only look at quotes from licenced entities (e.g. National Grid). To get around this suppliers have been getting quotes from unlicenced entities (e.g. a private gas installer) to avoid the connection charge being referred to Ofgem.0
