Gas installation costs

How much does it cost to have gas and a gas meter installed in a house? I'm talking about a semi, where there is no gas installed.
However, there is gas in the adjoining semi and there is gas in the next set of semi's, approximately 12 feet away.
If I decided to let British Gas install central heating, might they instal the gas for free do you think?
Any ideas folks?

You won't get it done for free, but why don't you just phone Transco & ask them how much it would cost to have gas piped to your home?
If you are going to get central heating installed at some point, then don't go through British Gas as they are really expensive. Find yourself a local registered Corgi firm, or if you can get a recommendation then that's the best thing. It pays to get 2 or 3 different quotes and make sure you go for a decent boiler. False economy doesn't pay in the long run.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I agree about not getting BG to do the central heating. A couple of months ago we had new boiler and 7 rads including new pipe work up stairs and that cost us about £4K.
The person fitting it said that with BG it would have been at least £8K.
When we had gas installed in our flat about 7/8 years ago it cost £120. So reckon you are looking at least £300 now.
