two xbox consoles on xbox live fron one router?

My sons have an xbox which they currently share, but they both have seperate xbox live accounts. I would like to buy another xbox for my other son so he can play on xbox live in another room on another tv at the same time as his brother. Is this possible? Can you run two xbox consoles on xbox live at the same time from one internet connection? Also, does anyone know where the cheapest place to buy an extra long cable to go from the xbox into the back of the router?

Many Thanks

  • we have 3 x box's running off 1 router all on live, just depends on how you connect, I have mine wired to the router in the living room, the kids are both wirelessly connected from thier rooms, 1 via xbox wireless reciever the other using shared connection through his laptop. so you can do pretty much anything.

It should work fine. They should also be able to (if they want) play against each other using "system link" on some games.

How long a cable do you need?

I think poundland or somewhere like that have 6m ethernet cables in at the mo. Otherwise play.com normally work out quite cheap inc postage:

    5m - 3.49
    10m - 4.99
    15m - 6.49

Could probably get them for less than that on ebuyer etc, if you have something else you need to buy (so you can share postage costs) - or you could try ebay.

Many thanks for that. Sorry to ask another dumb question - when you say that they can play against each other using the 'system link' does that mean that they will only need one copy of the game in one of the consoles?

You would need a copy of the game for each console.

The only system link I know of that doesn't require this was certain games of the Game Boy Advance, but these games required a data transfer between the consoles before gameplay could begin :)
