  • I am have an telephone appointment next week with CCCS but am really fretting. I have no debt with my bank at all and am worried i will have to close my account and have trouble re - opening another bank account - i think i will be doing a DMP for my debts and wonder how this affects my bank account ?

I went bankcrupt years ago and found it so difficult to get someone to give me a basic account i am dreading doing it again as my credit rating is so poor.

Hi I have just received the initial letters for my DMP this morning. I put an application in last week for a new bank account with a different bank to my current on but have not heard anything from them yet. I have a large overdraft and a credit card with my bank, should I postpone telling them about my DMP until the new account is up and running, with all direct debits transfered? What do I do about the credit card payment? Should I just pay this one? I only had one loan direct debit, the rest I just paid when due, so I have cancelled that.
Also the CCCS letter asks for the month the DMP is starting, but Im not sure what to put.
Finally, do I have to declare any savings I have, most of which belongs to my kids?
    Thanks

Can you confirm that if I send a letter asking for the CCA then the CC Co have to stop any demands for payment until they supply it?

    thanks
  • Hi there, was hoping you could help. I took out a credit agreement with GMAC when i bought my car in May 2008. Following my redundancy in march last year, I have still managed to keep up my monthly payment of £351 each month. As I have still not managed to find a job, paying this amount back each month is going to be impossible come the end of Jan. I spoke to a debt management helpline and was advised that I could make a £1 monthly payment to them. If i did this would it affect my credit rating? I have made sure I have continued to pay all my debts and I know i will be coming into some money to pay off these debts (but have no idea when), so I didnt want to do something that would affect my credit rating going forward. Any advice welcome. Jo

Hi just found this topic and think its great that you are on here to help ppl its very kind of you.

I completed our debt recovery plan on monday night on CCCS website and it adviced us that we should start a DMP paying £249 per month. I applied for this and i am waiting on my welcome pack. I have a few questions tho:

    1) I forgot to put in a couple of unsecured debts when i completed the debt remedy how can i add these to my DMP?

    2) I have set up a new basis bank account with RBS and my husbands wage will be paid into this account as of next week (he's paid weekly) and am in the process of transferring my essential DD's ie mortgage, council tax, elec and gas etc. But a loan we have included on our DMP is due to be paid next week and i am unsure if i will have received my welcome pack by then should i cancel the direct debit now at my old bank account and send a letter and token payment already before i receive my welcome pack? Im slightly worried about this as the loan is with my old bank and we also have an overdraft there and my mother and i also have a business account with them would they try to take the money from our business account even tho my mother is also the account holder??

    3) Our current 2yr mortgage deal ends in july we have never missed a payment on this in the 2 yrs and my mother is included in this as i was on maternity leave when we took the mortgage ( she and my father are highly regarded customers at RBS where our mortgage is held as they have alot of money invested with the bank) this being the case in light of my parents being priorty customers will RBS still charge us a higher interest rate on our new deal with my husband and i taking out this DMP???

My mother is fully aware of us taking out this DMP as we want to get out of this debt by ourselves and not borrow money from my parents which would be the easy way out the way we see it is we got ourselves into it by oversprending, we get ourselves out of it, she is saying that if the RBS do try to give us a higher rate then she will threaten to remove all her money from the bank (which is a great deal of money) do you think this may persuade them to give us a better deal (our current deal is high as rates were high at the time of taking the mortgage).

    Thanks in advance

    Suzanne

    1) I forgot to put in a couple of unsecured debts when i completed the debt remedy how can i add these to my DMP? You will need to let our Debt remedy Team know, I will message you them their number

If the loan is with your bank and you have not had time to change everything over, try and make this payment and then cancel it after then

You would need to speak to your lender as each company has different policies.

It would really be down to RBS, you would need to speak to them.

  • Dear Sarah

May I ask you a question?

I set up payment plans with all my credit cards (approx £75K total debt)after receiving CCCS's fantastic advice. I had spent years before this, often contemplating suicide, about my credit card debts. Luckily I have no
other debts than these and nothing is a 'secured' debt.

I have been paying on time as agreed for 6 months now. All the cards applied a default notice except the Co-op who continued to apply interest over this 6 month period - and have only just agreed to stop. They say they were allowed to do this (FSA rules) and refuse to refund any of the interest applied during this period, even though I have said I will write to the ombudsman.

I now have another major problem.
My elderly mother has lived with me since my father died - and I am her main carer. This was all explained in my original letters to the card companies, when I had to complete the budget sheet.

She has now had a stroke and is getting progressively worse - and has an assessment booked with a dementia specialist. This will mean that I will have to seriously reduce my working hours and I will be unable to stay in my current job because of its demands on my time and I will have to move to another less demanding post in the same company - which the company has agreed I can do. So my salary is going to be SERIOUSLY reduced. I reckon I will be lucky if I can manage a quarter of what I am paying. Payments range between £75 lowest - £140 highest.

    What should I do?
  • Sorry I am new to the site and have just joined, I thought I would share with everyone the great news. My Brother-Inlaw informed me last night that his bank has written off £8000 from his credit card.
The process took around 14 months but he got there in the end, it can be done :T

    Shame on the Banks!!

Did he declare bankrupt? DMP? IVA?

How did it effect his credit rating? can he now take out a mortgage, loan, credit card again?
