  • I am so glad I have joined this forum!! I am having significant debt problems and signed up for a DMP with money worries! they were very believeable on the phone and actually thought someone was trying to help me but turns out they just want my money that I dont have!! I have now cancelled my debit card and standing order to money worries and have gone with cccs DMP.

Any advice on how to get my first payment of £547 back from money worries? this is money I just cant afford to waste!

Any idea how long cccs take to contact creditors? And get the DMP working.

    Sorry lots of questions

    Very stressed!!!!
  • Hi
can anyone tell me how my mortgage stands when i begin debt management?
I have given all the names of credit cards and amounts that I owe, and told them how much my mortgage payments are each month, but the mortgage wasn't included in the amount that I can no longer afford.
Does this mean that the house is not in the equasion then?

Sorry if people are fed up with seeing daft questions from me all over the place, but I need to be really clear in my head with what's going on.
    Thanks

    Hi Debt counsellor
Mine its a bit complex to me, I owe natwest its credit card and an overdraft and i have a loan and owe sainsbury credit card. i went to work overseas witout making the payments at all. Now i have no bank account, i have to open one, how do i go about this? I have no idea how many of the CCj`s do i have.I just recently returned looking for a job? One of the sticky q`s is bank account? HELP please. Thanking you in advance.

First of all, you may want to get a copy of your credit file from one of the three credit reference agencies. This way you will be able to see who you owe the debt to and how much is outstanding. If you do have any CCJ’s then you will need to treat these debts as a priority. To vary a CCJ you can complete a form called an N245 – you can get a copy of this from either the courts website or your local county.

I have added a link below that lists basic bank accounts http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf

    Thanks Matthew

I'm going to check through all the old paperwork which is now stored away. I'm convinced that at the time we had several ccj's but I don't remember any of them having a fixed payment through the court but after 8 years I can't remember. This may seem a silly question but why would I have to give this new company any further information just because they bought the loan. Surely they should have 'bought' all the information they need. Is my agreement legally now with them?

They should have this information, if not then should be able to request the information from the original creditor.

The penny has finally dropped for us...we're in deep do do. I've scoured Martins site for the best guidance and now need to start talking to someone before jumping into how we get out of the mess we're in.

Nutshell....Late 40s, £200k mortgage, £65k loans & credit cards, minimum repayments, £50k equity in the house. Probably £800 a month short of making ends meet, a good deal more short of having disposable income or being able to save. Need to remedy this quickly as there's an expensive 10 years coming up for the kids.

Don't fancy the prospect of IVAs or bankruptcy at all as I'd rather have some choice in how we get straight. More or less resigned to selling the house next year, clearing most of the debts with the equity, renting, saving and regrouping for a few years.

Am I on the right track? Is there something I've missed?

I'll do the Debt Remedy tool but need to know what the most useful 'get by' tips are to ease things on the repayments until we can sell the house.

Any pointers most gratefully received. Many thanks.

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Once you complete Debt Remedy, you will be given an advice booklet with loads of useful information in. Your budget will determine your best options i.e. if there was some surplus to offer your creditors you could look at making reduced payments until the house is sold.

Once you have completed Debt Remedy, have a read through the booklet and give me a shout if you have any questions.

    Hello,

I’m not too sure how to get the money back from Money Worries, is your first payment due to be distributed between your creditors or an upfront fee?

When we receive all the information back from yourself then we load the information onto our systems and then send the creditors the proposals. This is we will send you your welcome pack.

  • Hi,

We are currently in the process of sending all our info back to cccs for a dmp, I was wondering how you allocate payment to our creditors?

Also as my DH is sometimes able to earn overtime anything between £150-500 is it possible for us to talk to one of creditors who we owe less to (around the £150 total) and offer them a full and final offer of a lesser amount or is this something we need to check with cccs first before doing?

    Thanks

    Hi Stinky Onions,

    Thank you for your post.

The first step when you are looking at dealing with your financial problems is to complete a budget. Your mortgage payment should be included on the budget sheet so that you can continue to pay this on a monthly basis.

As a mortgage is a secured debt you really don’t have a lot of room to negotiate with your lender if they will not reduce the payment. If you do not pay your mortgage, then the lender will repossess the property.

I hope that this clears up the confusion.

    Kind regards,
    Amanda

    Hi twoflower169,

    Thank you for your post.

Your payment to us is split up on a pro-rata basis to your creditors. We do this based on the original payment that you were making to your creditor. So, the person that had the highest monthly payment prior to starting the DMP will receive the highest payment on the DMP.

If you have a lump sum payment we advise you to make an increased deposit your DMP so that you continue to treat all of your creditors fairly and equally. This is one of the main reasons that a creditor will agree to the DMP payment, because you are not going to single any one of the creditors out and give them preferential treatment. If you have any queries with this you can contact our client support team when you have the lump sum available,

    Kind regards,
    Amanda
