Hello, I am not paying them any money per month but I did pay a fee of around £500 if I remember correctly to start my DMP...

My DMP should be for around 4 years but as Lloyds are still charging interest and fees I feel it may go on longer.

I am able to come out of the DMP plan and do it myself?

    Thanks

You should be able to come out of a DMP at anytime, you would just need to let your provider know and cancel it with them.

The creditors are under no obligation to stop the interest and charges on a DMP, as a DMP is an informal arrangement.

Good luck running your own DMP and if you need any help with anything give me a shout.

    Hi,

I am on a DMP with CCCS at the moment paying £132 a month. I started maternity leave in June and need to reduce this amount. I have heard that the minimum DMP has to be £100 a month, is this true? My boyfriend has said he will cover everything else allowing me £100 surplus to continue paying CCCS if that is the case, would that be Ok as my budget may look odd as there wouldn't be that much on it. My pay has more or less halved exactly so I'm desperate to reduce the amount until I go back to work.

    Thanks

    Hello,

£100 is not the minimum on a DMP with the CCCS, I think this is the case with other Debt Management organisations.

I would recommend that you call our client support department and they will be able to look at your budget and discuss the minimum amount with you.

Hi CCS counsellors, I need some advice please.
What is the situation re: liability for a debt which is the result of fraud on a new credit card sent to an old address? I last used the credit card and paid it off in full in Oct 2005. I moved from that address in Nov.2006. When I moved I'd forgotten about the card as I'd paid it off in full and hadn't used it for over a year, and don't remember if I gave the credit card company my new address. In 2008 they sent a new card to this old address (even though I hadn't used my old card for over 2 years) which was then used by someone fraudulently in March 2008. In april this year I received a letter from a debt collection co. demanding payment which is the first I learnt of this fraud. Where do I stand on this? I never received the new card as I didn't live there so its not my debt but am I liable for it if the credit card co. didn't have my new address?
Glad of any help on this please.
  • Hi,
I wonder if someone could help me with some advice.

I have a credit card debt of £4000 which is on an interest free deal set to expire shortly. I also have an overdraft of £1500 costing me alot which I am unable to tget rid of - my current account is also overdrawn by the end of the month. I have no other debts.

I have tried to get credit cards to switch it to at reasonable rates but been refused. I have also ben refused unsecured loans by several banks. I do not own a house so cannot get secured debt. I have been offered a debt management plan and the cost is ok. However, it is not my only option. I can also withdraw equity from my business to pay off the debt. However, I would much rather avoid doing that for internal polictical reasons. I have looked at the cost of this plan and would rather pay then withdraw the money from business I part own.

What I want to know is whether there is any possible negative repercussions from this plan - i.e. any affect on my ability to borrow in future - in particular to get a mortgage?

    Any thoughts most welcome!

Not sure if this is the right place to be on the site but I am desperate for help with an old debt from 1991. My previous marriage disolved and my house was reposessed in Feb 1991 and sold in 1992. I received a letter from a debt collection agency in July 1999 demanding payment of the shortfall of nearly £7k. This seemingly was the payment for a mortgage indemnity policy as our borrowing requirements were in excess of the building societies usual lending criteria. The mortgage had been in joint names. At the time I was so terrified of being taken to court that I agreed to pay £10 per month from Sept 99. I also gave them the address of my former husband and his telephone number and work address and said that I felt victimised that I was being held responsible for the whole o/s balance. I have been paying the £10.00 ever since, until I received a letter from a different collection agency saying that I should stop paying the previous agent and start paying them. I stopped my old standing order but have not set up a new one with this company as I still feel that I have been treat unfairly. I have paid £1300 so far. I have received a letter now from the new company saying that if I do not make arrangements within 14 days they will commence recovery procedddings for the full balace.

    Any advice would be helpful
  • Hello
I need some help with dealing with Debt Collection threatening letter.

I moved from Tiscali broadband to Sky in Feb 09 and my phone line and broadband was disconnected from Tiscali. I got new phone number and broadband from Sky. I notified Tiscali prior to moving.

Tiscali still send me an invoice for £19.81 for Feb 09 and I rang them and emailed them to notify that they no longer supply any service to us. I received an apology note and said that they will close my account. Last month I received 2 letters demanding £133 payment. I ignored this. Now Tiscali has (what appears) sold my debt to a Debt Collector who is threatening to take me to court. Now the Debt Collector is demanding some £240.

Any help on how to deal with this will be appreciated.

    Hello,

You would need to report this directly to your lender and they should investigate this. You will need to write to the collection agency and inform them of the situation, as the account is in dispute they should hold any further action until the matter is resolved.

    Hope this helps

    Hello,

If you were to go down the route of a Debt Management Plan, this would show that you have arrangements in place for your debts and the creditors could possibly issue you with Default Notices and pursue you via the County Court – all of these would stay on your credit file for six years.

Lenders use different underwriting criteria when choosing whether or not to lend you money. Some lenders use what’s knows as ‘rates for risk’, so the higher risk you are the higher rate of interest you will pay.

    Hope this helps

    Hello,

This sounds like a standard collections letter you have received, if you don’t have the money to pay the full balance then just continue to pay what you can afford. The best way of making the payments is either through a standing order or payment book rather than direct debit.

If you are paying £10 a month, this is going to take you a while to clear the debt so you may want to have an appointment with the CCCS. We will be able to help you put together a detailed budget and look at all your options.

If you would like to call the CCCS for an appointment, please call 0800 138 1111 or if you prefer to visit our free online debt advice facility Debt Remedy this link will take you directly there.
