Cyprus Pounds

Help! I am going to Cyprus next weekend, and I have some Cyprus pounds left from my last visit 2 years ago. I understand that Cyprus has now adopted the Euro, can anybody advise me what is the best thing to do with my Cyprus pounds - eg can I still use them in Cyprus, or change them at a bank in Cyprus, or a bank in England??

I've just come back from there. All prices are in cyprus pounds and euros, they are having a transition period of using both. I took euros so didn't try to use any but don't think you will have any problem using them.

The central bank of Cyprus will exchange coins until end of 2009 and notes until end of 2017 free of charge.
Travelex in various UK airports usually exchange CYP notes.0 -

The ability to pay with Cyprus pounds ended 9 months ago, on 31st January 2008. As Fruity1 noted shops still show dual pricing but that is a familiarisation issue and legally they can only accept payment in €.
The Central Bank of Cyprus is, in theory, the only place that is required to exchange them but, as far as I'm aware their only physical location is in central Nicosia. That's probably not hugely useful if you are here for a week or two on holiday.
Your best option would be to try a Travelex or equivalent at the airport you are flying out of. The fixed exchange rate is 1 CYP = 1.7068€ so an old £10 note should get you 17€ and change.

Travelex doesn't buy them anymore, stopped about 3 months ago.Lightbulb moment Dec 2005 - debt £23700
June 2010 - £17984.210 -
In practice, most banks there will exchange them for Euro.0

Having visited this forum before flying to Cyprus I was apprehensive about changing the Cyprus pounds I had left from last year. But no problem at all, visited the Bank of Cyprus opposite our hotel in Paphos on 10th November 2008 and exchanged the notes for euros at the original rate of 1.7086 euros to the Cyprus pound with no commission. What was great was that the weak pound did not matter!!0
