new kitchen quote

I know it's a bit difficult to assess this without seeing the more detailed plan but does this seem reasonable? If we place the order by the end of October the fitting is free. We are also responsible for providing a skip for removal of the old kitchen - is this normal? (We're keeping our existing washing machine and fridge-freezer.)

Who are you buying this kitchen from? How many units are there? £7k for units sounds well expensive.0
-
This is from a local firm. For our money we will be getting:-
5 wall mounted corner cupboards, 2 of which will have frosted glass doors and 1 of which will be a corner unit;
1 sliding larder the height of the fridge freezer;
1 narrow cupboard the height of the fridge freezer;
another smaller wall mounted cupboard above the fridge freezer;
1 wide pan drawer pack (3 drawers);
2 floor standing corner cupboards with swivel out shelves;
2 under sink cupboards;
a pair of doors covering washing machine which we might decide against anyway;
smaller cupboard for a bin;
These are solid oak doors; the saving on having laminate doors would only be about £1000.
Thanks for any further comments.0 -
I used to work at Howdens - this quote of yours sounds a lot. If you know someone in the trade, take the quote into a Howdens store - they'll beat it. Plus you'll probably get stronger carcases.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

Your bunkers (work tops) seem really expensive to me. B&Q do 3.6m from £100ish, do you need the full 4.1m or can you make do with smaller?
There is a worktop supplier near me who supply a lot of chains (Tayfirth laminates / perstop) and if you can find a local supplier it would almost half your costs there.
List of distributors for their laminates
http://www.kronospan.co.uk/distributors/index.html (if this helps).
Oh and you can always get the big sheds to price match each other. I had great fun earlier this year doing just that with B&Q against Homebase who pricematched against Boots / Sainsburys' online. The result, my kitchen which I got from B&Q in the end which was quoted at just over £3k including an AEG double oven, AEG hob and AEG cooker hood which totalled £1500 on their own, I got for £1900 approximately. This included bunkers, splashbacks and a few accessories.
Ok they just about had kittens, but hey I persevered and the look on their face was priceless. Ah the joys of the internet eh?
Good luck, and please shop around a bit more for your other things as like others I feel this is quite expensive, either that or I'm a skinflint.
Right I'm going to bed now, feeling lousy and I'm full of the cold - good luck and I've decided you owe me a virtual lemsip with the money to be saved........0 -
That waste disposal unit is expensive - sure its about half the price at Howdens.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

I used to work at Howdens, and the carcases are 22mm thick, which means they are more sturdy and should last longer. I said "Probably" as unsure where the OP was getting this quote from.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0 -
Bushboard Omega range do the lengths and widths of worktops you need
http://www.betterdiy.co.uk/category/Omega/
4100 X 600 x 40mm = £106+vat
4100 x 665 x 40mm = £159+vat = £311 .38+delivery
NB - I have put the above link for reference. I have not used this company so cannot vouch for them.
I got my kitchen units from B&Q for just over £3000 in the sale in Nov last year. That was for a kitchen 4.4m x 3.3m and included solid wood doors and drawer-fronts and pull-out corner unit. The cabinets for the select range are really sturdy. I just bought a granite composite 1.5 sink today from B&Q for £185 and a curved glass cooker hood for £64! (out store had 15% extra off today and the next 2 days)0 -
Have you tried ikea? i got loads of base units 2 sets of massive drawers and one for my fridge freezer and one for cooker and that cost £1400, the units are 18mm thick.
We also got solid oak worktops, our kitchen it 6m x 5m.
Our sink was a belfast sink and was £200 on its own but that was included in the £1400, if i was you i would look around.
