Will Halifax waive my failed DD fee?

Help me!

I've never had any charges in the ten years I have had this account, a DD that I thought was due out on Wednesday was presented today and I was £4 short in my account, I had planned to pay £10 in today to cover the DD but its obviously too late!

They will now put a £35 charge on my account in three days as I understand it which will cause me to go overdrawn and which means presumably they will then charge another £35 and so on until payday next Thursday :-(

What are the chances of them waiving the fee if I ring and politely request it? Any suggestions as to what i should say?

Just very clamly and politely (unlike the way I tried with Nat Wets) remind them that you have not had any missed DDs in 10 years and that you feel on this occassion if they could show some good faith to a good customer it would be very much appreciated.

If they are going to give the charges back as a one off they will only do it if you ask.

    Good Luck!!!
One day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T

Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged. :(

    Or maybe not:mad:
  • The banking code requires any bank to inform you of any charges in advance.
To charge you in 3 days (have you been advised of this) is a bit quick.

Yes, I would phone them up - is it an account which you could apply for a small overdraft on to prevent this happening in future.

No it doesn't. If you're referring to section 5, it states "standard service charges" or something similar. Anyway, the word "standard" is in there somewhere.

A bounced direct debit, informally requested overdraft, etc. do not count as standard services.

I don't know where I got the three days from, I'm sure I read it somewhere, I've just looked on their website and it doesn't say anything about informing you of charges or when they come out, I guess I'll have ot wait for a letter or see if they take it out on Thursday.

I did go into the branch yesterday expecting to be told that I needed to ring the Call Centre but the woman was very helpful and willing to look at it when the charge actually shows, so I haven't given up hope.

I don't have an overdraft, I can't really be trusted with things like that - its much too tempting, it won't happen again don't worry, I normally have a fair bit of money left in my account at the end of the month but I just got promoted and got a bit carried away with the extra money!

I once had a two charges (£20 each I think) on my Halifax current account waived after phoning up. I just stated they were my first in X years and the refunded the charges! This was about one year ago now. Wish you luck!
  • If you were going to be charged it would of showed on the system yesterday for you or today, did you go into a branch today and try? Sometimes the system is nice and if you pay it in before the system checks you will get away with it!
As for getting the charge back IF you do get charged I would be really really shocked if they dont refund/reverse it for you as it is just a mistake and first one in ten years!
  • We were going to get charged, We got on the Blower.

They said that because we had not had any charges for a long time, Then they waived the 2 charges.

IMHO most of the time the 'Culprit DD' is either the 'poxy' TV licence a mere 11.99 per month or something else of a 'non important nature.

Tv might be going in the new year.

    I'd rather watch nothing. :j

Thanks to all, especially itsnothing, you've got me all hopeful now, they still haven't taken any money but then again if I was right about the three days it'll appear tomorrow.

I can't go back into the branch until she has proof I've been charged.
