when i did the A/V scan i got the message of a reading error and also for boot sector of c disk.wot's it mean? have looked in google and it all looks gobbledygook 2 me.

also set a restore point a few days ago ( don't use restore v often) and noticed 2nite that it's gone.wasn't even able 2 go back a month.never encountered THIS one with restore b4.i have the disk space set @ 200mb.

are the 2 things related?

When a scan is run in safe mode with AV it cant read the MBR or C:\ partition
by default, well thats how I undeerstand it, maybe someone will put me right on that.

And system restore is only kept so long... http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm

200mb is an extremely low setting for restore, it will not be able to set very many restore points at that level. What size Hard Drive have you got? You should be able to afford a bit more space.

What AV were you running and what Operating System?

Mark.using AVG.40 gig HD.still using ME.reason why i have it set so low is cos i've been so prone 2 trojans plonking themselves there in the past.thought having it on minimum wud b ok.

Its a choice of using system restore or not - If you are going to use it I'd increase the size by a decent amount. When scanning with AV can you click on the test tab (in the test centre box) at the top of the scrfeen and select 'scan system areas'? Some virus' can get into the MBR - most would cause the system to crash but some clever ones can make it a bit awkward.
