easyjet

why is that easyjet have started charging to use a switch card or debit card, i can understand them charging money to use a visa as they are a low cost airline which gets bank charges (although £4.95 is a bit steep!) but they even charge £1 to use a switch or debit - am i not right in saying they dont get any bank charges for this so why are they charging! can they do this?

They are quite cheap anyway so whats the point in complaining? Use another airline if you disagree with the charge.

yes they are cheap but i disagree because i am uncertain whether or not they occur charges for using a switch or a debit card - if they do fair enough but if they dont why are they charging

All companies incur charges for any card payments be it debit or credit card. The profit margins in travel compared to other industries is a lot less and therefore they are not able to absorb this cost as easily. I think your gripe should be with the banks and card companies rather than with easyJet.

However they save a lot of money by accepting these methods of payments, compared with people sending them cheques or cash. So the logical thing to do would be top build into the quoted price the cost of the debit card and to then charge extra for all other payment methods.

This may be difficult because they don't charge the extra for Carte Bleue or Visa Electron. I think it is more acceptable to be transparent with the charge anyway.

Ryanair have applied these charges for some time now although I'm not sure about other airlines.

I think it is as well with some things to pay the additional price of paying with a credit card, at least you have some degree of additional protection over and above your travel insurance in case something goes wrong.
