Unable to login to Gmail - Is it a Three Mobile broadband problem???

Hi,

Recently my computer is not logging on to my Gmail Account or any other google web site. I keep getting the following error -

"Data Transfer Interrupted

The connection to https://www.google.com has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred.

The browser connected successfully, but the connection was interrupted while

transferring information. Please try again.

* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.

* Still having trouble? Consult your network administrator or Internet provider for assistance."

I am running a Win XP laptop and have experienced this problem with both Firefox3 and IE7. I have cleared the cache and cookies, rebooted, tried to system restore but nothing has worked.

I am using a Huawei E220 with three payg mobile broadband, I wonder whether it is something related to three as I can access gmail if I use dial up?

I will try re-installing the E220 client to see if it helps but am really frustrated by this new problem.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
El

Clearly if dial up works, then your computers browsers are set fine.

Whats the difference when using broadband? Does it use OTHER software or something?

Similar problems referenced here ( found by googling on : Data Transfer Interrupted connection terminated unexpectedly )

Seems to be related to site certificates. You could perhaps try playing with settings in Firefox/IE7 (for Firefox - Tools, Options, Advanced, Encryption tab)

    I'm using Firefox version 2.0.0.11
If older versions are available you could try uninstall and install something older.

  • I had similar problems on 3 mobile broadband (not able to log into gmail, or access ebay and some other sites) so I thought I'd share my solution:

First I came across a site that recommended using OpenDNS instead of 3's DNS servers. I tried this and immediately had ebay, and slightly better speed in general but still no gmail.

I did some more searching and found a reference to changing your MTU setting.
Once I learned how to change my MTU to 1400 instead of the standard 1500 suddenly everything works, and with much better performance too.

See OpenDNS.org and google MTU to learn how to change it on your system.

    Hope that helps someone.
