No...I thought it was very original. All ours were called typical hamster names like Cheeky, and Nibbles etc etc. :D

Aww they are so sweet! Did you rescue Spike then? What had happened to him? Last time I went to the local RSPCA place there were quite a few small pets that were in there.

I'll have to try and get a picture of her when she comes out next, I've been concentrating on the actual getting her out bit so far!

Yes do that would love to see a pic.

My friend's boss asked her if she wanted a hammy as his kids had got bored of it, and he was afraid it would escape, so he had rung the vet for a price to put it down.

My friend doesn't really like hamster's so asked if I would take him.

Spike is an old boy and probably hasn't got much time left, so heartbreaking that they couldn't be bothered to look after him for a few more months.

Anyway he came home in a fish tank covered in chicken wire, sitting on piles and piles of food, and about 2cm of cotton wool, no bed, no toys, not even a toilet roll. He had no water and was in a bit of a state, made me sooo mad.

    Thanks :D

We normally name then after famous actors:

    Bradley - after Brad Pitt
    Wesley - after Wesley Snipes
    Orlando (already named)
Harry - Harry Potter (not original)

    Dudley (Gerbil) - Dudley Moore
Sammy (Gerbil) - Samual L Jackson

I just noticed the bit up there about the toast, they can have that then? Also are they allowed popcorn (obviously plain, just popped in a bit of oil?)

Not sure to be honest, perhaps someone else knows

Aw thats awful about poor Spike. I really don't know how people can be so cruel to animals, even if you don't know much about them or don't like them, it's still common sense and decency to treat them well. At least he's in a good home now though.

I've been trying to get a photo of Poppy but she is too quick! I end up with a photo of a little bum halfway out of the photo lol

we are having the same issues as OP, they are being very shy, managed to have one of them out for a cuddle the other night but they love sleeping, just like their mam hehe
by the way they have a lovely bed on the bottom layer of the cage and their house is on a little platform, they do have bedding in case ppl thought they had a bare cage!! :)

Aaah they are so cute Suzy! Poppy (keep nearly writing 'poopy' - oops) has been much braver lately, she came out to play earlier but I think she got a bit overexcited, she was running really fast, at one point I nearly lost her down he back of the settee! I cleaned her cage out earlier and now shes scurrying around happily messing it up again!

Can't remember if I've already mentioned this, but is there any way to stop her chewing on the cage bars? Other than buying a different cage. She has lots of different chew sticks, mineral stone, bits and bobs she could be chewing on?
