Installing a new gas central heating system

Hi... Looking for poeple's advice as a bit of a novice when it comes to heating systems.
We are just about to complete on a three bed semi house in Yorkshire that currently has two storage heaters - one upstairs landing one downstairs landing and a small electric fire in each room exc. kitchen and bathroom all of which definately need reaplacing.
What is our best option...
Gas? The property has no gas so this could be piped in at a cost of c.£400/500 and then a central heatig system installed. Would underfloor heating be a good idea? Has anyone had this done and what were the costs? Downstaris - two reception rooms, kitchen large hallway. Upstairs - three beds and bathroom.
Electric? Don't know too much about electric heating systems but get the impression they are more costly. Any advice?
Any info which people could provide would be much appreciated. We would be looking at keeping the property ten years plus.
Thanks
Sas

Go for gas, gas cooking, gas heating, gas tumble dryer.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Anybody have any views on which is better - Gas or Electric. Would be grateful to hear from anyone who has had to make this decision in the past.
If you can give rough estimates that would be great.
Thanks,

As a result of this thread I have been looking at Electric central heating systems on the internet. It made quite interesting reading. Of course the manufacturers do not do comparisons with gas. There is one system that uses a very elegant night storage heater, which, combines with 24 hr electricity to produce heat exactly when you need it. The cost of the radiators seemed quite expensive and probably a lot of extra wiring would be required. I do not imagine that the installation cost would be much less than a gas system. For myself, I think that I would go with gas. If I considered an electric system I would require to find out a lot more about it. The maintenance costs of an electric system would be a lot less, but whether enough to offset the higher costs of the electricty over gas is doubtfull
I doubt whether underfloor heating would be feasible unless in a new build. In any event, it would raise the floor level and this might not be compatible with the height regulations for habitable rooms.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Where have you got your price of £400/£500 to get connected to the gas mains? When I asked National Grid two years about moving my gas meter to the outside of the wall its currently mounted on they wanted that much. I'd expect the cost to jump to thousands to get a new connection.0

Thanks for the posts...
We've done a fair bit of research and gas is certainly looking more favourable. Quotes have generally come from friends/people at work but it looks like c£500 for installation and then anything from £3k upwards for the GCH installation depending on what radiators we go for. Would be thinking of a combi boiler.
The quote for the installation is on the companies website - from memory it was about £300 if no digging was required and £500 if digging is needed.
We only tend to hear bed news stories about electric heating - costs etc.0
