I've done numerous searches but need some definitive info please:

Humax PVR-9300TB for example - will this PVR provide exactly the same functionality as SKY +.................i.e. will it allow me to watch a previously recorded programme whilst simultaneously recording 2 other channels?

Thanks in anticipation.

This page says that you can watch a third channel whilst recording another two, and that you can pause live TV.

Because the delay TV function require use of the hard drive (recording and playing back after the pause button is pressed), you could assume that it would work to record another two channels whilst playing back a previosly recorded programme.

    Hi,
It is also very cunning and looks to see if anything is repeated later , Chanel 4+1 etc.. if you try and record 3 programs at once.

In fact depending on the channels you can record two and watch a 3rd depending on watch channels

So is there ANY reason not to call Sky and say "bye bye?"

If you'll be happy with the channels Freeview offer, then none at all.

The cost of a Humax or Topfield twin tuner Freeview PVR box plus installation of a freeview aerial is the equivalent cost of TWO YEARS of the lowest Sky package which gives you far more channels and keeps the Sky+ functionality.

At the moment, it's not a simple choice. Analogue TV is being switched off which means that HD channels can appear on Freeview when it does. If you've got a HDTV, you're going to want those channels. The problem comes with the fact that whatever Freeview PVR box you buy now is not going to have Hi Def capability so you're going to end up buying another one.

I personally would keep Sky and have the 2 mix minimum package. As I said, over a couple of years, it'll cost the same as the Freeview twin tuner PVR solution so you're going to be no worse off.
