Help for train tickets Wigan to Euston

My wife and I are planning to go to London in the morning of Friday 7th November 2008 - say about 10.00 am approx and return mid to late afternoon on the following day Saturday 8th November.

We have not travelled by rail for many years and the information available is somewhat bewildering.

How do I go about finding reasonably priced rail tickets.

Hi, just had a quick look and the following advance tickets are available;
Wigan North Western - London Euston Leave 07:55 Price £44 per Person
but if you are a bit flexible with your timings then;
Wigan North Western - London Euston Leave 14:01 Price £26 per Person

Return part of the journey
London Euston - Wigan North Western leave 14:09 Price £14 per Person

To book the Tickets you need to register with a train company I use Virgin Trains and have had no problems, DON'T USE TRAINLINE they charge you extra for your tickets.

Once registered then use the buy tickets screen and find the Advance singles for your date and time of your journey and use normal postage for delivery option you will get them in plenty of time.

Any problems then just ask

Hi,

I have registered with Virgin but don't seem to be able to find fares like the ones you could find for the Saturday.
We are having difficulty with theatre tickets for the Friday night so we want to go now on the Saturday 8th November about 10.00 and return Sunday - Mid afternoonish but I am having difficulty finding anything reasonable.
Do I look for Singles - Wigan Euston and then Euston Wigan - rather than a Return - I am finding the rail organisation a bit daunting - I have found theatre tickets but don't want to book them or a hotel near the theatre until I can sort the trains out.

I have now managed to book suitable tickets for Friday evening so we are now looking at Train prices to go down Friday about 10.00 am and return Saturday Mid afternoonish but am having problems finding my way in the Virgin Booking system .
Just need some reasonable prices as direct as possible.

Best I can do with it been so close to your traveling dates, splitting tickets might make it cheaper but doubt it as Wigan is a station already on main west coast line.
