Has the tape left some residue or is the mark the colour the carpet used to be? test a small area close to the mark with a carpet shampoo. It sounds as if the tape has protected it from dirt. If the tape mark is darker it could be the carpet has faded and the tape has shielded the bit underneath. Or, theres a lot of or's in here, when you removed/applied the tape you could have changed the lay of the knap.Give me life, give me love, give me peace on earth.0

If it is sticky residue, then i would put a damp teatowel or other similar cloth over it and use an iron to gently steam it off. If the residue is removed but the carpet is still dirty then carpet shampoo can be used.
May be worth a go, i have used it to remove some black stick pads which ended up leaving really thick residue on our carpet..it was from an old telly being removed and put down on floor..the pads were underneath.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

get a small hacksaw blade hold between finger and thumb on both hands. so teeth are pointing down bend slightly and draw towards you along the mark.
this is also very good for putting life back into old wool carpets.
time consuming but do it over a few nights and its amazing what a difference it makesTHE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0
