    Hi Mick
My cousin has had this as a confirmed diagnosis since birth. It is a genetic disease which can be passed on to your children, if you have them or not at this point, it worth getting them tested for it.
She has had a lot of surgery over the years, but she does get DLA and also free bus travel, but has been threatened many times with removal of these benefits. She is also registered as visually impaired in both eyes. Her spine is badly curved as one side of her body grew normally and the other too much. One leg is longer than the other and she wears height adapted footwear.
So I would say if you do not get DLA at present, keep on trying for it, as sadly you will not recover from this condition, so you will always need help of some sort.:)

Hi sorry to hear about your cousin it is awfull to live with. No children as yet, i am looking into getting tested to see if i will pass this down. I hope they dont stop her dla, At the moment i dont need it as mine is not as bad but i feel it is getting there and thanks for the reply.:)

My mum is a disabled/BB holder and I take her shopping at our local Morrison's. When we have got the shopping I take it out to my car which is parked in a disabled space and leave my mum in the store in her wheelchair because we like to go in the cafe after we have finished shopping. You wouldnt believe the abuse I get sometimes when I am putting the shopping in the car. People see an able bodied person and assume that I shouldnt be parked there and they are ALWAYS elderly people that kick off. If someone approached me in a proper manner I would be happy to explain ( as one of my pet hates is the abuse of disables spaces ) but they just jump to conclusions and start ranting even though there is a BB in the car!

I've evn been told that I'm "not old enough to be disabled" by a woman who had parked in the disabled space because her child was in a wheelchair. Does this mean I'm too young AND too old?

I think a lot of people are ignorant to the fact that disabled people only come in wheelchairs.

I don't mind who knows what I've got ... it makes it easier to explain my thinking/behaviours as it all ties back to certain things. Thus enabling me to communicate more succinctly when I am having a problem understanding something, or communicating.

Then we can all laugh, I can be called names, we laugh again ... and fix it.

    I just have an ASD.

Some people fail to recognise epilepsy, people who have epilepsy that is not totally controlled and have fits still are not able to drive, a big disability in itself. Obviously the council now supply bus passes and you can purchase a rail card, but no benefits are there. Some people including myself have problems working full time as it is tiredness and stress that affects people/

I was diagnosed as epileptic when I was 16, which was 23 years ago. My seizures are still not controlled fully. I have never heard of bus and rail passes for epileptics. Is this still going? If so, how do I apply? I am basically a prisoner in my own home as I can't afford the bus to go anywhere.

You need a letter from your GP which basically says that they believe you're unfit to drive due to epilepsy and take that to your council office. For the railcard, you have to go on to http://www.disabledpersons-railcard.co.uk/ which has information on what you need to supply.

Some councils say you must apply for a driving licence first andshow them the refusal letter. I know someone who did this (he has epilepsy) and the DVLA gave him a driving licence. He then phoned up and basically said that he has uncontrolable epilepsy and shouldn't have been given a licence.

I've had that as well as "are you drunk?" No, I'm not drunk. It's not my fault I can't walk in a straight line or that my eyes wobble.
