Hi,
A question regarding savings and applying for housing benefit and council tax benefit.
As Icesave have now stopped me from living off of my savings am i now entitled to HB and CT benefit?
I mean i havent deprived myself of my capital and i cant live off of it as they have it.
Cheers.

We had a similar question the other day and I think that this would be highly unlikely especially as it supposed to be resolved in a matter of weeks.0

I suspect they would take the view that you still have the capital, and as healy says its expected to be sorted in a matter of weeks, remember people often put money into 12 month bonds or 90 day notice accounts and thats classed as savings and rightly so0

Thanks for the advice.
After reading on the Icesave threads in the savings forum, apparently the returned savings will be classed as "compensation" from the FSCS.
Now does that change things on my original post? Whats the score on means tested benefits and receiving compensation?
Cheers.0 -
But this would have been a deliberate choice. Assuming the OP didn't put their savings into Icssave _knowing_ (or at least hoping) that this was going to happen then I think you could argue that they are entitled to something.remember people often put money into 12 month bonds or 90 day notice accounts and thats classed as savings and rightly so
Not sure you'd get it, but think you could argue it.0 -
