DVD player on laptop not loading anything, please help!

Can someone please help me.

I have a relatively new computer, ok it might be old now compared to what is in the shops now but i havent had it that long.

Have gone to use the DVD player but can not get it to work,

I put a DVD in and it sounds like it is trying to read it for about 10 seconds then stops, but nothing appears even when i put auto play setting on.

My D drive is coming up as named as RECOVER no matter what i put in there. Dont know what has happened as it was working up until now.

Am thinking maybe the DVD player has somehow got uninstalled or changed as found my 2 year old playing around with the computer the other day when i left it on, but have no idea if it is even possible to uninstall.

Can anyone help with this problem?
Thank you so much in advance.

    Hi there.

Are you sure that your D:\ drive is a CD Drive, and not a recovery partition for your laptop manufacturer?

You could try using a CD/DVD Lens cleaning Disc, which brushes the laser head inside the cd drive, if this fails, you may simply reaqire a replacement drive. Its very hard for windows to forget about a disc drive, so i would assume that the little one has possibly contaminated the laser head on the disk drive, or given it a knock.
  • hi,

    thanks for the reply,

yeah am def sure that it is a CD drive as its been working up until now,

think i am gonna have to take it in for someone to have a look at it in that case.

    thanks again x
