Upstream/downstream ports help

I've just had a Acer Aspire CPU (?)

It has 4 usb ports at the back & I'm trying to connect a USB hub.
The directions for the hub tell me to plug the hub into the downstream port of the computer.
How can I tell which is the downstream usb port.

Thanks

    Any of them will work.

    Thanks penrhyn.
The hub I was using was a brand new one from Belkin, I've just tried an old one I got from Aldi & it works.

    Thanks
