Help! - need to do a fast Balance Transfer £3.5K

Hi all,

New to all of this so would appreciate some help.
I need to do a BT of approx. £3,500 from my existing Mastercard (HSBC).
I want to move it ASAP so that I can minimize interest paid to Mastercard on the amount outstanding (won't be able to pay off all the debt for about 6-8 weeks but can cover minimum payments).

I've been looking at the details of a couple of the various 0% BT offers on the site, but have not been able to proceed with them (the new HSBC won't work - cannot do a BT from existing card to the new Gold card >:( and Virgin had a £1000 limit on BT).

Rather than spend time trailing through more fineprint only to discover 'this one won't work either', I decided (for speed's sake) to ask the seasoned veterans if you can tell me any Credit Card that will meet my criteria, namely -
1. The 0% BT obviously.
2. reasonable credit limit (at least £3,500)
3. FAST processor/turnaround (within a week - is that possible/realistic?)

And just to demonstrate how new I am to this - once I have a new card with an acceptable credit limit, how do I actually go about performing the balance transfer?
Will the new card owners do that for me when I request it?

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!

By The Way - this is an absolutely superb site Martin!

Thanks. :)

  • Have a look at this thread.

I would second the comments about Egg - and they're normally quite generous with credit limits.
  • Thanks GaB and Mary!
I just applied for the Egg card online.
Took about 20 minutes with relatively few problems and they are generous with the credit limits as was mentioned earlier ;D

    Thanks again. :)
  • Glad to be of service. ;)

Don't forget that Egg is a 'super balance transfer' card which will allow you to move money straight to a current account with no fee.

The Egg online service is relatively easy to use. Once your account is set up, log on and you will see a column headed 'your money' on the left-hand side.

Select 'balance transfers' (under 'move money') and you will then be asked where you want to transfer a balance from - another card, loan or current account/overdraft. Just select which one you want and follow the instructions. ;D
  • Ahaaaa!

I didn't realise it was a 'Super BT' card too.
Nice to have that extra option. ;D

    Thanks again GaB!
