Buying a new car on PCP/Leasing

My mate wants to get a new car on a 3+23 monthly payments at about £300/month.
He wants to know what does the finance company look for? Are some of them stricter than others?
He is financially viable and his Credit Record is ok but apparently not perfect.
Obviously he wants to avoid the scenario of having to do many applications in case it deteriorates his credit score further.
Any advice from the experts here?
