Blocking websites- effective methods?

is it possible to block at IP service provider level or router level. if so how?

Use opendns. Go to https://www.opendns.com and follow the instructions.
If you have a wireless router, change the default dns to opendns.
As long as no one has the router password, every computer connecting will be blocked automatically.0 -

If you want to block specific websites, you can do this either at web browser or router level.
If you just want to block "types" of sites, popular anti-virus security suites have parental controls built in that you can set up and customise.
OpenDNS is OK but is slow to update at times. I would look into the other methods I have listed above first.0
